Terms of use
Plain English, because terms nobody reads protect nobody. A product of Computer World Modern Inc..
What calling is, and what it is not
Say Up connects people who are on Say Up. Calls run between two browsers over the internet. You reach members by Say ID or from your contacts.
It also cannot dial ordinary phone numbers, receive calls from them, or send or receive text messages to them. If that changes we will say so; until then, assume it cannot.
Calls are best effort. They depend on your connection, the other person's, and the networks between you. We do not guarantee that a call connects, stays connected, or sounds good.
We do not record calls. Nothing in Say Up records audio or video. Message and call history are kept as described below.
How old you have to be
You must be at least 13 to have a Say Up account. We ask for your date of birth when you join. It is not shown on your profile and nobody else sees it.
Accounts under 16 can only be called by their contacts, and cannot change that. Accounts under 18 start with their profile visible to contacts only, and can open it up if they want to.
If we find that an account belongs to somebody under the minimum age, we will close it.
Your account
- One person, one account. Do not share it or let somebody else use it.
- Your Say ID is yours permanently and cannot be changed. Give it out the way you would a phone number, and only to people you want to hear from.
- You control who can see you and who can call you, separately, in your account settings. Being findable is not the same as being reachable.
- We may suspend or close an account that is used to harass, deceive or spam other people. Where we can, we will say why.
- Tell us the truth about your age. See how old you have to be.
Plans and money
- Credit is prepaid balance. It buys plan periods and nothing else. There is no meter and no per-minute charge for calling another member.
- Credit does not expire and is not transferable between accounts.
- Allowances are checked when a call starts and counted when it ends. A call is never cut off part way through for going over, and the overage comes out of the next period.
- A failed renewal does not lock you out. The account drops to Free and keeps its contacts, history and messages. You lose the parts you stopped paying for and nothing else.
- Payment happens at our processor. Computer World Modern Inc. never sees or stores your card details.
- We will never ask you for money by email or phone, or outside this site. If somebody claiming to be Say Up does, it is not us.
How to behave
The short version: do not make this place worse for the person on the other end.
- No harassment, threats, or contacting somebody who has asked you to stop.
- No spam, scams, or calling strangers in bulk. Repeated unwanted calls get an account labelled and then removed.
- Nothing illegal, and nothing sexual involving anybody under 18.
- Do not post other people's private information.
- Do not impersonate somebody else, including us.
Blocking is always available and it is silent. The person is not told. Reporting a call also blocks by default, because reporting somebody and then continuing to hear from them is not much of a remedy.
Privacy
What we keep: your account details, your contacts and blocks, your messages, your posts and reactions, a record of your calls (who, when, how long, and the mode), your prepaid balance and plan history, and any reports made about or by you.
What we do not keep: the contents of a call. Audio and video travel directly between the two browsers wherever the network allows it, and are never recorded.
Call relays. When a direct connection is not possible — common on mobile networks — audio and video pass through a relay server so the call can happen at all. The relay forwards encrypted media and does not store it.
Notifications. If you turn them on, incoming call and message alerts travel through your browser maker's push service (Google, Mozilla or Apple). The contents are encrypted so that service cannot read them — it carries the message without being able to see who is calling whom.
Call history is kept for the period your plan states, then removed. Deleting your account removes your profile, posts, messages and contacts. Records we are required to keep for accounting are kept for as long as the law requires and no longer.
We do not sell your data, and there is no advertising on Say Up.
Where we stand
Say Up is provided as it is. To the fullest extent the law allows, Computer World Modern Inc. is not liable for what other users say or do, for calls that fail to connect, for notifications that arrive late or not at all, or for anything that happens because you relied on this service instead of a telephone.
Where any part of this is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
